Marsha Brown’s is located in an old church in the heart of New Hope. They have valet parking most nights. Street parking is metered and is difficult to find. You also have to watch your time. If you go uphill from main street, you will find an abundance of reasonably priced parking lots. We paid $6 at the lot just uphill from the New Hope train station. They have a small elevator for handicapped access to the second floor.

The first floor of the building houses the oyster bar, bar and a private room. When you go upstairs, you are in the old church itself with the stained glass windows and a magnificent painting by a local artist,  Valeriy Belenikin  The room is unique to say the least. The high ceiling of the church, altar rail and windows make for a comfortable atmosphere. Dress ranged from casual to suit and tie. All ages were represented.

I started with salad with a tangy honey mustard dressing. For a main course, I had the Chicken Florentine which was served sizzling. The meal was delicious. I ordered a cappuccino and the chocolate cheesecake. They were out of the cheesecake but our waiter suggested a chocolate mousse instead. That turned out to be an excellent compliment to the cappuccino.

Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful service, wonderful food. Stained glass windows, cathedral ceiling, a huge biblical mural all are a marvel.

They have several oysters to choose from. The most popular are from Prince Edward Island You may have them steamed. I had a delicious lobster stuffed with crabmeat served with drawn butter.

The crème Brule was the best I ever had. Bring your prayer book and go!

Update July 4th, 2004

We revisited Marsha Brown's on July 4th, 2004.

The service seemed a little uncoordinated during our visit.  The wait staff was friendly but it took a while for things to arrive. All told, dinner took three hours. That wasn’t too much of an issue since we weren’t planning anything after dinner and we were able to have a relaxing time.  It is possible that the holiday had some effect on the amount of customers or the availability of staff.

For dinner, I ordered the Sharon Lee's stuffed shrimp ($21.95) . The shrimp was done to perfection. The crabmeat stuffing was crabmeat and shrimp, not the bread that you get at other restaurants. For dessert I ordered a Chocolate Mousse Mountain. ($8)  This was a base of Oreo Cookie crumbs with a chocolate mousse over top served in a large tumbler. It was very sweet and delicious.

Parking – We parked in the same lot as on our previous visit. (uphill from the railroad station) However, it is now self serve parking. You need to find one of the machines that will accept cash or credit cards. You get a ticket to place on your dash. The machine would only allow us to purchase time until 9 pm. It was 7:30 so we thought 2 ½ hours would be more than enough for dinner. Given that dinner took 3 hours we were late getting back to lot. They really aren’t clear on their policy as to the closing time. No one ticketed our vehicle but we do want to find out what their policies are.
