The Village Renaissance Faire - Wrightstown, Sept 15-16 2007. This is GREAT fun

The Village Renaissance Faire will be held at the Middleton Grange Fairgrounds in Wrightstown Pa on Saturday and Sunday September 15th and 16th.

There is something for everyone at this event. We attended about 2 years ago and had a terrific time. Events included: A huge chess game that the kids could play, renaisannce era plays, kids getting to fight knights in armor (with nerf swords), fencing, pony rides, archery, arts and crafts and dozens of other activities.

One of the highlights for us that year was a working trebuchet. If you've never seen one of these medeival seige engines at work, they are truly amazing. This particular model could throw a watermelon over 300 yards. (of course, the trebuchet may not be there this year).

If you go, don't miss the jousting at the end. They began with a play of sorts to set the mood. The action then moved to the field with various mounted demonstrations such as catching a ring with a lance. The particpants are wearing full armor. The demonstrations were followed by jousting. Seeing two mounted knights charging at each other and shattering their lances on the other's armor is amazing. The scene later shifted to dismounted swordplay. When we attended we found out that the good guys don't always win.

Anyway, in our humble opinion, the Faire is a fantastic way to spend a day with kids of all ages or just by yourself.

Tips

  • Bring plenty of sunscreen
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
  • Bring some extra money for events such as the kids dueling with a knight and food.
  • Plan to spend the better part of the day, especially when they are doing the jousting
  • Bring a camera and/or video camera, especially if you bring the kids. It's not every day you get a chance to get a picture of your kid fighting a knight.
